Anti-LGBTQ+ bill: Court to deliver judgment on farmer’s suit against Speaker on March 21

Sefa seeks a perpetual injunction against the Speaker and related parties to halt further breaches Sefa seeks a perpetual injunction against the Speaker and related parties to halt further breaches

The Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Ellen Lordina Serwah Mireku, has set March 21, 2025, to deliver judgment in a case challenging the handling of the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

The case was brought by Paul Boama Sefa, a farmer from the Ashanti Region, who alleges that the Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General violated constitutional provisions, particularly section 100(1) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), in the legislative process for the bill.

Sefa seeks a perpetual injunction against the Speaker and related parties to halt further breaches of the Act, arguing that the Speaker intentionally ignored statutory requirements to push the bill through Parliament.

Lawyers for the Speaker have been directed to file supplementary submissions by December 20, 2024.

The televised judgment will follow decisions on related Supreme Court cases scheduled for December 18, 2024.
