National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament have hailed the Supreme Court's unanimous decision to dismiss a petition challenging the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.

The petition, filed by lawyer and journalist Richard Dela Sky, was rejected by a seven-member panel led by Justice Lovelace Avril Johnson.

The Court ruled that the bill’s constitutionality cannot be contested as it is yet to become law.

Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu commended the decision, highlighting its reinforcement of parliamentary authority and separation of powers.

He noted the President’s next step would be to either assent to the bill or provide reasons for withholding approval.

Mr. Sosu also raised concerns about time constraints in the 8th Parliament for deliberating the bill, suggesting it may need reintroduction in the 9th Parliament if unresolved.
