The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to assent to the anti-gay bill before leaving office.
Speaking at the launch of the church’s Bicentennial Anniversary at Osu Castle on December 22, Dr. Kwakye highlighted the bill’s cultural and religious significance, describing its approval as a "birthday gift" for Presbyterians.
He expressed confidence that the President would cement his legacy by enacting the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill into law.
This call comes days after the Supreme Court dismissed petitions challenging the bill’s constitutionality, clearing a significant legal hurdle.
While Parliament passed the bill in February 2024, its final approval awaits the President’s signature, amid continued national and international debates over its implications.
