If I were Akufo-Addo, I wouldn’t assent to anti-LGBTQ bill – Freddie Blay

Freddie Blay Freddie Blay

Former NPP Chairman Freddie Blay has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to avoid assenting to the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill, citing potential economic sanctions from international partners.

Known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, the legislation aims to criminalize LGBTQ+ advocacy and impose penalties on supporters.

However, Blay, speaking on GHOne TV's *Hard Talk*, argued the bill is unnecessary, as Ghana’s current laws sufficiently address such issues.

He suggested leaving the decision to the incoming administration, led by President-elect John Mahama, who he claims has advocates for the bill within his ranks.

Blay warned that assenting to the bill could jeopardize crucial aid from partners like the IMF, exacerbating Ghana’s economic challenges.
