Education Minister-Designate Haruna Iddrisu has firmly opposed LGBTQ+ practices, citing their inconsistency with Ghana’s cultural and moral values.
Speaking at his parliamentary vetting on January 20, Iddrisu emphasized that such practices conflict with his Muslim beliefs and Ghanaian traditions.
He stressed the importance of safeguarding societal values and preserving the upbringing that aligns with the nation’s cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama proposed a new approach to the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference on January 14.
He suggested reintroducing the bill as a government-sponsored initiative, arguing that it would bolster its legitimacy and improve its parliamentary prospects.
Both leaders’ remarks underscore a commitment to maintaining Ghana’s traditional moral framework within the bounds of the constitution.
