President-elect John Dramani Mahama has urged President Akufo-Addo to swiftly sign the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, before its validity expires with the current parliament on January 6, 2025.
The bill, aimed at outlawing same-sex relations, awaits presidential assent despite its passage by parliament earlier this year.
Legal challenges in the Supreme Court have delayed the process.
Both Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leading presidential candidates, have pledged to sign the bill if elected.
Addressing Assemblies of God clergy, Mahama emphasized the bill's alignment with Christian teachings, expressing hope for its approval. He also thanked the church for its prayers and unwavering support for him and his family.
