Akyem Oda MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah has called on President John Mahama to "return the votes" of Ghanaians if he cannot fulfill his campaign promises.

Speaking on UTV on January 15, 2025, the MP criticized Mahama for suggesting that the LGBTQ+ Bill expired with the 8th Parliament, making it impossible to sign it into law.

Akwasi Acquah described campaign promises as social contracts, asserting that failure to honor them amounts to dishonesty. He questioned why Mahama would promise to sign the bill if he knew it could lapse with the previous Parliament.

The MP further urged voters who supported Mahama based on this promise to demand accountability.
